To be sung on the water

In the midst of mirroring waves,
shimmering waves of joy
Glides the soul away like the boat.

...

Above the treetops of the western glade
Beckons to us amiably the ruddy glow;
Under the branches of the eastern glade
Rustle the reeds in the ruddy glow.
Joy of the heavens and peace of the glades
Breathes the soul in the reddening glow.

Ruddy glow (1)

Song of the spirits over the waters (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) The soul of man Is like the water: It comes from heaven, It returns to heaven, And down again To earth must go, Ever changing. ... Soul of man, How like to the water! Fate of man, How like to the wind!
